I'll go back to my comments that started this thread.
Many of us think of attributes like comments... after
all, we introduced them to get rid of those nasty
pragmas buried in comments. But because we think of them
like comments, we expect the syntax to be different than
the rest of the language. Ooops! If you could make
an assignment with a multi-line string in a begin
end block, it'd be legal in a attribute, but it isn't.
