A suggestion:

Turn all cross-references blue and/or underlined.
Then readers will know they can click on them and go to
reference.

Fix

Turn all cross-references bold blue underlined.

Then readers will know they can click on them and go to
reference.

UPDATE (2004-11-25): The hyperlinks to Tables, Figures, and Syntaxes
now work as well.

I did this on 2001b as an experiment (underlined bold blue) . I think it looks
great in PDF.
However, in printed form, it looks less nice and is useless anyway.
I will send a sample page separately.
Maybe we could have two versions, one for PDF and one for printing.

On second thought, the bold and underlining does not bother me so much even in
the printed version.
You just need to get used to it, but it does not take very long.

There is a complication. It works for the clause
cross-references, but the automatic hyperlink action
does not work for the Table and Figure xrefs.
I think it is connected to their not being in the Bookmarks
of the PDF.

Right now in the draft, the Table and Figure xrefs
are bold blue underlined as well, but that could maybe
be turned off without difficultly. I could check.
